Shrimp farming

We are making progress in shrimp farming in cages in open sea cages, we have operated for 3 weeks and the results so far are excellent.

Apart from having a well constructed cage with a mesh that does not permit the escape, has been the primary care oxygenation during transport to prevent mortality (which is achieved with a small portable pump that feeds air to the nursery in the panga. For example and without using an air pump, carrying more than 2000 hours a shrimp 2 cm in length only 22 died).

We are now at the stage of achieving the full cycle from larva floating cages, to provide low-cost youth for our partners as people.

Cage submerged Shrimp PVC filler concrete. The mesh is ¼ inch. The cage is kept at a depth of 3-6 m (depending on the tide), lying at the bottom.

After weeks of growing hundreds of shrimp mortality was zero and the appropriate growth.

A view of the cage to be taken to the water. This first version had a fine sieve for early stages of the shrimp inside the ¼ inch mesh.

Another shrimp cage built in Palito Island of Chira, but also for PVC waterline. The mesh is also ¼ inch.

With a lid Saranan, this cage is home to 2000 shrimp are growing at a rate higher than in ponds.

These shrimps (white, Litopenaeus vanammei) grew several inches in two weeks. It's the same shrimp that are grown in ponds on land, so the youth and food are readily available.

The ladies who attend the opening the cage to feed the shrimp (they are fed twice a day, morning to concentrate equivalent to 1% of live weight, in the afternoon with mince beef and fresh fish, an equivalent of 3 % of live weight).

A trough of the two used.

The other trough. The food is distributed between the two troughs, which are gently lowered back into the water so as not to leave food.

Detail of signs placed on the cage that includes red flag and flashing light for the night. It is necessary to prevent the onslaught of cage is pangas.

The three ladies who tend the cage shrimp. The care of the cage to prevent theft and vandalism is 24 / 7 (24 hours a day 7 days a week) and performed by other partners of the Association of Fishermen Cuerderos of Palito, who practiced only fishing rope, and maintain and a protected area to monitor this.
